Mount Isa Education Facilities 100% LEADSmart

In 2010 the Living with Lead Alliance initiated a LEADSmart Education Program into all schools, day care centres & kindergartens.

The aim of the LEADSmart Education Program is to raise awareness throughout all schools, day care centres and kindergarten facilities on living safely with lead in Mount Isa.

To be a part of the LEADSmart Education Program all facilities must meet the criteria set by the Living with lead Alliance and initiate a policy on living safely with lead within their school, day care centre & kindergarten.

The LEADSmart Education Program recognises the efforts of local education facilities in providing information and education to teachers, parents, students/children and visitors regarding living safely with lead by incorporating lead awareness and education into their policy, curriculum and practices.

Through this program, we aim to educate Mount Isa teachers, parents, and students/children about the facts on lead, how to reduce the risk of elevated blood lead levels and promote the Living with Lead Alliance key messages; Wet Wipe, Wash and Eat well

Living with Lead Alliance proud to welcome new groups to LEADSmart Education Program - December 2011

The Living with Lead Alliance are pleased to welcome Happy Valley Kindy, Captain Kid Child Care Centre and Family Day Care to our LEADSmart Education Program. These three facilities join 20 of Mount Isa educational facilities in becoming LEADSmart.

“I am pleased at the response from all Mount Isa schools, kindergartens and day care centres that have joined our LEADSmart Education Program. It is a huge step forward for the Mount Isa community to have 100% of Mount Isa education facilities now part of our LEADSmart Education Program”

“Being LEADSmart shows the Mount Isa community the commitment of each facility in working towards a healthier lifestyle and ensuring that the health and well being of our children is their top priority” by delivering the Living with Lead Alliances key messages to the community and working toward a healthier lifestyle for Mount Isa children.”

The Living with Lead Alliance was established to develop and deliver an extensive and ongoing public education campaign to ensure the health of Mount Isa residents. The Alliance consists of representatives from the Mount Isa City Council, Queensland Government – Queensland Health and the Department of Environment & Resource Management (DERM), and Xstrata Mount Isa Mines.

The ‘Living safely with Lead’ campaign will remind us that Mount Isa is a safe place to live and it will provide you with information about how to minimise your exposure to lead. Over the coming months you will see a lot more about this campaign in our community.
